Duns Repair Café opens to rave reviews!
Customers of Duns’ new Repair Café described it as “fantastic”, “excellent” and “marvellous” when it opened its doors for the first time on Saturday 1st Feb ‘25.
The drop-in service, which offers free repairs to everyday household goods, completed 17 repairs in under three hours, including three food mixers, four sewing machines, a digital radio, a draught excluder and a child’s hanging mobile.
Set up by Greener Duns under the slogan ‘Don’t Bin It! Fix It’, the Repair Café will be open on the first Saturday of every month for mending small electrical appliances and household goods, offering help with computer problems and mobile-phones and repairing garments and sewing machines.
“Our aim is to help people save money while caring for the environment by having broken items fixed for free, rather than throwing them away and buying new ones,” said Julia Wood of Greener Duns. “We were amazed at how successful the Café was on its first day. Not only did we have a ready supply of customers who all wanted items mended, we also signed up a number of new people to do the repairing.”
Duns Repair Café will next open on Saturday 1st March 10am – 1pm at the premises of Fair Share, 15 Murray Street, just off Duns Market Square. On Saturday 5th April, it will be at Southfield Community Centre, Duns, same times. For more information, visit our Repair Cafe webpage and follow our Repair Cafe Facebook page.
